BIG BILL HONORS 9-11

BEST PIZZA - NEW YORK STYLE
From "Westword," March 23-29, 2006

Big Bill's New York Pizza 8243 S. Holly St., Centennial 303-741-9245

If you're looking for a raucous, crowded, family-friendly, suburban Italian restaurant with New York City transit maps, 9/11 memorials and a lot of crazy crap on the walls, Big Bill's is your place. But this is also the best spot in town to get a slice of a serious, New York-style thin-crust pizza - a gooey, greasy, foldable wedge that doesn't just taste, but also looks and smells, exactly like the kind Brooklyn made famous. The sauce is mild and sweet, the pepperoni thin-cut, the cheese stretchy 'til forever, and the grease - that most magical of elixirs - as orange as a traffic cone.

BEST TASTE OF NEW YORK, OUTER BOROUGHS
From "Westword," March 23-29, 2006

Big Bill's New York Pizza 8243 S. Holly St., Centennial 303-741-9245

Big Bill's has great pizzas, calzones and chicken parm sandwiches, as well as the requisite New York mementos hung all over the walls to let everyone know that this is the real deal. But what truly gives Bill's an honest feel of New York's blue-collar latitudes are the Drake's Cakes stocked proudly behind the counter. Just as Tastykakes are key to a Philly cheesesteak joint, the Drake's coffee cakes and Yodels give Big Bill's that extra bump of authenticity, making it an indispensable outpost for any ex-pat New Yorkers doing time in the Mile High.

"'Big Bill' gives N.O. Hoops a Huge Assist"
From Union-Tribune News Services

The University of New Orleans basketball T-shirts are still on display and for sale at Big Bill's New York Pizza. "Big Bill" is Bill Ficke, the longtime Denver-area resident and former Denver Nuggets assistant coach with the heart the size of his native New York. The other day, Ficke sent a check for more than $10,000 to a UNO foundation, representing some of the proceeds from his restaurant's annual salute to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001. One day a year at Big Bill's, all food is free... (full story)

"'Big Bill' shows big heart on Sept. 11"
From The Denver Post
by Terry Frie

Bill Ficke thinks people in the world need to be nicer and learn how to get along. "That's really what 9/11 is all about," said Ficke, who owns Big Bill's New York Pizza, a popular eatery at Holly and County Line. To help people get in the spirit of being nicer, Ficke decided to give free food to all his patrons on Sept. 11, last week. All he asked in return was that they donate to a cause he had chosen. The result? More than $15,000 went to the NBA Colorado Christian Home in Denver, a nonprofit that helps abused... (full story)

"South area gets a taste of Long Island"
From "The Herald"
by Deb Ellis

Patrons only have to listen to the big 6-foot-6-inch man greeting them with a New York accent, or read his company T-shirt to experience a little bit of Long Island in Littleton. The front of his shirt reads "Fuhgeddaboudit" in true City vernacular. The back reads, "Whatevah" with an imaginary New York shrug. The New York giant is 56-year-old "Big Bill" Ficke, the working proprietor... (full story)

"Top Kid-Friendly Restaurant
Editors' Choice: Big Bill's New York Pizza"

From Top of the Town 5280, Denver's Mile-High Magazine

Kids can't survive on burgers and fries alone. Instead, indulge them with pizza and pasta at Big Bill's New York Pizza, where the place is pretty much run - and overrun - with kids of all ages. The New York style pizza is some of the best this far West, and the young ones can perch themselves on stools facing the open kitchen, and play with balls of pizza dough. Plus, the kitchen staff is happy to turn that dough into kiddie-size pies. 8243 S. Holly St., 303-741-9245
